The Organiser is Canon Europa N.V. 59 Bovenkerkerweg, 1185 XB (“Organiser”);
1.    The Data processor is Interpay Sales Promotions, IDA Business & Technology Park, Ring Road, Kilkenny, Ireland.
2.    All entrants (“Entrants”) must be aged 18 at the date June 9th, 2021, must have started or completed an education program during the academic year 2020-2021, or be engaged in internships by agencies or magazines within the same period; proof of enrolment to the educational institution or agency / magazine internship and/or copy of the student card will determine the eligibility and the admission.
3.    Employees of the Organiser, its subsidiary companies, their families, agents and other parties directly involved with this Programme and the sponsorship are not eligible to enter.
4.    By entering this Canon Students Digital Development Programme Competition (“Competition”) all Entrants are deemed to have agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions unless notified otherwise in writing.


5.1  250 eligible participants will be selected among Entrants, residing in one of the countries listed below or referred by a local Canon organisation:

5.2    At the end of the review those selected will become “Participants” and 250 students will be admitted to the Canon Students Digital Development Programme (“Programme”). Individual preparatory presentation portfolio reviews by industry professionals will take place remotely  between July and August. From September 1st to 4th 2021, in a digital online setting, the key activities for Participants will include:
•    Dedicated lectures, presentations, and seminars
•    Group portfolio reviews carried out by industry professionals (photographers, photo-editors, curators, journalists)
•    Networking opportunities with representatives from the imaging and media industry introduced by Canon

5.3    The official and only language of the initiative is English, no translation services will be provided, Participants need an adequate proficiency in English to benefit from the Programme, the necessary tools and adequate skills to attend the digital online settings. 

5.4     All Participants will be introduced to relevant local country Canon organisation.


6.    It is free to participate. To become a winner and be selected to participate in the Programme, Entrants are required to submit their portfolio(s) via URL ( from April 1st 2021 - to June 9th 2021. Entrants will need to submit a portfolio up to two (2) stories/projects, each with a maximum of twenty (20) duly captioned photographs.
7.    Entrants will submit with the portfolio additional documentation (PDF) pertinent to the story/project or their studies which includes:
•    Bio;
•    Motivation statement to attend the Programme;
•    when feasible, a letter of recommendation from the Teacher/School/Agency/Magazine;
•    Student ID and/or Confirmation from the School/University (or agency/magazine internship) certifying the enrolment in the academic year 2020-2021.

8.    Incomplete, invalid or inappropriate entries, or entries received after the closing date of June 9th 2021, 23:59 (GMT) will not be eligible for participation in the Programme;
Only from the Entrants selected to become Participants, it will be requested to provide the following between June 18th and no later than June 30th, 2021:
•    Confirmation of attendance to the Program;
•    Image of the passport and/or ID card for the purposes of verifying their age.

In case Participants fail to confirm the attendance and/or do not provide the required documentation within June 30th, 2021, the term of eligibility to the Programme lapses.


9.    All photos must be original and taken by the Entrant;

10.    The photos/entries submitted by the Entrants must not contain:

i.    anything which may be considered in any way illegal or may infringe the rights of any third party;

11.    Entrants also agree to be contacted by the Organiser and its delegates for the purposes of administrating the Competition or if the Organiser wishes to discuss any other use of the picture(s) submitted to the Competition.

12.    The Organiser reserves the right to disqualify incomplete or illegible entries or which otherwise do not meet the above requirements.


13.    By submitting its entry, the Entrant warrants that: 
1.    Entrant is the sole author of the photographs; 
2.    Entrant is the owner of the proprietary rights in the photographs; 
14.    The Organiser warrants that:
1.    It shall act within the scope of the rights granted under these Terms and Conditions;
2.    The Organiser may wish to use your name and selected images for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity for Canon, the Student Digital Development Programme and other Canon education initiatives without additional compensation. In such case, the Organizer will contact the Participant to request Participant’s permission in accordance with the clause 11. Such permission may not be unreasonably withheld.


15.    After the closing date of June 9th 2021, an independent panel composed of Canon employees and/or other industry professionals will select from all entries the Participants, who will be admitted to the Canon Students Digital Development Programme 2021. The submissions will be reviewed based on: documentary and narrative skills of the portfolio(s), authenticity, storyline, bio, motivation statement, the Letter of Presentation and overall quality of the portfolio.

16.    Eligible participants with the qualifying submissions will be selected and notified over the outcome of the review within June 30th  2021.


17.    The selected students, Participants, will attend the Canon Student Digital Development Programme, and have the opportunity to access dedicated lectures, receive their portfolio reviews, and liaise with industry professionals all in a digital online format (“Prize”).

18.    The Organiser reserves the right to publish the name, town and country of the Participants or to publicise the prize giving presentation after the date of the Programme. If the Participant does not wish such details to be published, they must advise the Organiser at time of notification of the admission.

19.    The Prize is non-transferable, and no cash or credit alternatives will be substituted for the Prize on offer. If the Prize offered is unavailable due to Force Majeure, the Organiser reserves the right to modify the Programme.

20.    The Organiser shall not be in breach of these terms and conditions nor liable for delay in performing, or failure to perform, any of its obligations under these terms and conditions if such delay or failure result from events, circumstances or causes beyond its reasonable control including but not limited to fire, floods, pandemic embargoes, war, acts of war (whether war be declared or not), acts of terrorism, insurrections, riots, civil commotions, strikes, lockouts or other labour disturbances, acts of God or acts, omissions or delays in acting by any governmental authority (“Force Majeure”).
21.    When admitted, the selected participating students must make themselves available to attend the 2021 Edition of Canon Students Digital Development Programme during  September 1st – September 4th2021. 
22.    Any rejected or not confirmed admission may be offered to other Entrants at the absolute and sole discretion of the Organiser.


23.    Canon Europa N.V., 59 Bovenkerkerweg, 1185 XB is the Data Controller in respect of any personal data supplied by Entrants. The personal data provided is held securely and may be transferred on a secure server outside the EEA.
24.    The personal data collected from Entrants is subject to the Canon Consumer Privacy Policy


25.    The Organiser reserves the right to refuse to honour any entry or to recover the full value of the Prize if it considers there has been an abuse or breach of the terms and conditions of this Competition.

26.    The Organiser shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury of any nature howsoever caused, sustained by any participant under this competition. However, nothing in these rules shall have the effect of excluding or restricting Organiser liability for personal injury or death caused by the proven negligence of its employees or contractors.

27.    In the event of a dispute over interpretation or implementation of the rules on any matter related to the competition, the decision of the Directors of Organiser is final, and no correspondence will be entered.
28.    Any taxes or levies imposed by local government on an individual Participant as a result of such Participant’s participation in the Program shall be compensated by the Organiser (or its local affiliated company, as applicable).


29.    These Terms and Conditions and any disputes arising out of or in connection with them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands and will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Amsterdam courts.
