Software and Plug-in for the EOS VR SYSTEM

Discover how to create immersive three-dimensional content using a compatible Full Frame EOS camera and the RF 5.2mm F2.8L DUAL FISHEYE lens, while embracing a simpler and more efficient workflow with the EOS VR SYSTEM.

EOS VR Utility

What was once a complex process of alignment, synchronisation and stitching with multiple camera/file systems, is now made infinitely easier thanks to Canon’s EOS VR Utility1, which makes conversion of the stereoscopic footage and stills for editing and playback, a much more efficient process.

Equirectangular projection

In order to properly experience the 180° VR footage or still image through a VR headset, the order of the left and right eye images must be switched and an equirectangular projection of the two circular fisheye images must be performed. This equirectangular projection requires the use of Canon’s EOS VR Utility, and effectively ‘remaps’ the two circular fisheye images into two side-by-side ‘square’ images (a standard format for 180° VR image files), ready for viewing on a VR headset or editing in a compatible software application or NLE system. A checkbox in the EOS VR Utility allows users to toggle between the converted and non-converted views.

RAW (8K / 60P) video support

Compatible RAW video files taken with supported cameras (including 8K / 60P RAW LT files from the EOS R5 C) are automatically processed within EOS VR Utility, further simplifying a RAW workflow. Access to basic adjustments, including White Ballance, ISO, Brightness, Colour Space and Gamma, enable a professional output with a high dynamic range

Basic editing

Preview and playback the movie file, while marking the desired in and out points for export.

Multiple export options

Movie files can be exported into various resolutions and professional codecs, including DPX and ProRes files (Mac), ready for editing and grading in a compatible NLE application such as Adobe Premiere Pro. Still images are exported as JPEGs.

EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro

The new EOS VR plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro1 enables content creators to convert and edit directly from their NLE application and perform specialist tasks such as grading, and editing.

Why Premiere Pro?

Adobe’s Premiere Pro is the industry leading application for creating rich, immersive VR content. Canon’s EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro allows you to automatically perform the equirectangular conversion while seamlessly importing your Canon VR files in one simple step. The converted files can then be simply added to your timeline and edited and graded in the usual way, ready for final export and distribution.

Subscribe and get more

All users can enjoy a free trial period and perform conversions of still images and videos shorter than two minutes. However, when exporting videos of two minutes or longer with EOS VR Utility, or importing with EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro, a paid for subscription is required.
